Add a warm element
Cold greens next to warm roasted vegetables, sautéed chickpeas, or cooked grains create contrast that makes a salad feel generous. Start with whatever is already in your refrigerator and let warmth do some of the work.
A warm element also helps dressing cling more pleasantly and makes a bowl feel appropriate beyond the hottest days of the year.
Give every bite a role
A satisfying dinner salad usually includes a base, a protein-rich component, a creamy or bright dressing, and something with crunch. There is no need for a complicated formula: greens, white beans, avocado, lemon, and pumpkin seeds are plenty.
Choose one ingredient that surprises you a little. Fresh herbs, sliced fruit, toasted seeds, or pickled onions can keep an otherwise simple combination memorable.
Dress with intention
Dress the leaves lightly, then add a final spoonful of sauce after plating. This creates flavor throughout the bowl without leaving the bottom watery.
If you are bringing salad to work, pack greens and dressing separately. A few extra minutes of assembly preserves the texture that makes the meal appealing.
